Do I pay VAT on a home air conditioning installation?

Qualifying residential air conditioning installations are eligible for 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, provided the system is a permanently fixed reverse-cycle air-to-air heat pump supplying both heating and cooling and the unit and installation are bought together from a VAT-registered contractor.

The property must be a residential domestic building such as a house, flat or bungalow; the system must be a fixed split system or air-to-air heat pump with heating capability; and the unit and the fitting must be purchased together as supply and fit. Portable units and commercial properties are excluded.

What happens if I buy the air conditioning unit separately?

Buying the hardware on its own triggers the standard 20% VAT rate on the equipment. The 0% rate only applies when the unit and the installation labour are supplied together by the same VAT-registered contractor.

Installation starts from £1650 + VAT for a single split wall mounted system, including all standard installation materials. Your final price is confirmed after a free survey, and there are no hidden material charges.

What is included in the installation price?

Accepted Answer

Trunking, fused spur, drain hose, electrical fittings, brackets, refrigerant pipework, commissioning and testing are all included. Condensate pumps are not part of the standard materials — if your install needs one you can add it in the installation builder for an additional cost. You pay for the unit up front and the labour and materials once the installation is complete.

Do I need planning permission for air conditioning?

Most domestic installations in England fall under permitted development, provided the outdoor unit is sited away from boundaries and is not on a listed building or in a conservation area. We check this during your survey.

Are your installers F-Gas certified?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All refrigerant work is completed by F-Gas certified engineers using our own in-house installation teams — we do not subcontract your job to third parties.

Can air conditioning heat my home in winter?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every system we install is a heat pump air conditioner, so it both cools in summer and heats in winter, typically delivering around 3–4kW of heat for every 1kW of electricity used.

How often does air conditioning need servicing?

Accepted Answer

We recommend an annual service for domestic systems and twice yearly for commercial systems. Regular servicing keeps efficiency high and protects your warranty.

Do you install units bought elsewhere?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we can install customer-supplied equipment, though the labour guarantee then covers our workmanship only. Buying the unit and installation together is usually cheaper and gives you a single point of responsibility.
